A global leading construction machinery company with customers around the world wanted more efficient ways to transport bulky, differently shaped parts from Japan to avoid wastage of space on ocean containers.
They also needed more efficient transportation and warehouse management. SGL Europe's total logistics services provided all that was needed, saving the client a significant amount of money.
OUR SOLUTION
SGL designed a total logistics solution across the company's entire supply chain. We designed unique stillage to combine three different sized and shaped parts as one KIT for international transport, more efficient warehouse storage and cost savings for the customer.
We arranged all international transportation, located a warehouse near to the production plant and put an efficient Warehouse Management System in place, operated by SGL Europe staff. We effectively managed more than 50 parts suppliers in the UK and across Europe.

- Fast and simple disassembly of KIT parts
- First-in-First-out parts pulled to production
- Daily delivery arrangement with warehouse/suppliers
- Quality inspection of parts on arrival at warehouse
- Strict stock control
- Returning of empty stilllages after being disassembled at our warehouse
- Regular KPI reports for continuous improvement
In addition, our Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) ensured that parts for production were delivered to the assembly line at a pace to ensure production matched customer demand. We successfully managed 20 vendors in this way.
