THE SUMITOMO STORY

Four centuries ago in 1630, Masatomo Sumitomo established the first Sumitomo Company in Japan - a store selling medicine and books. The business quickly expanded within the family to include a copper smelting business, successfully extracting silver from raw copper.

The next generation took the company to the top of the Japanese copper mining and refinery industry and began to diversify into other industries like sugar and textiles.

Today Sumitomo Corporation has achieved phenomenal success. One of the top three general trading companies in Japan, it has a global business portfolio that includes some of the top companies across a diversity of industries.

THE GROWTH OF SUMISHIO GLOBAL LOGISTICS

As Sumitomo Corporation's business spread across the world, the need for a logistics division arose. In 1983 Sumisho Global Logistic was created to handle all Sumitomo Corporation's global logistics.
